What is a UN certified big bag?

A UN certified big bag is an FIBC that has passed the tests laid down by the UN (United Nations) for the transport of dangerous goods. Woven plastic big bags are classified under the UN codes 13H1, 13H2, 13H3 and 13H4.

Which substances require a UN certified big bag?

Solid substances classified as dangerous goods require UN certified packaging. Whether a substance may be carried in a big bag is determined by the packing instruction assigned to its UN number in ADR and the IMDG Code.

What is the difference between UN 13H1, 13H2, 13H3 and 13H4?

All four are woven plastic big bags. 13H1 is without coating or liner, 13H2 is coated, 13H3 has a liner, and 13H4 is both coated and fitted with a liner.

What are the UN big bag tests?

For UN certification the drop test (PG I: 1.8 m · PG II: 1.2 m · PG III: 0.8 m), stacking test (24 hours), top lift test (load of 6 times the maximum net mass), tear test, and topple and righting tests are carried out.

What do ADR and IMDG mean?

ADR is the European agreement concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by road. IMDG is the international code for the carriage of dangerous goods by sea. Both require UN certified packaging.
